The EPS Group offers an unrivalled range of wastewater treatment solutions for municipal clients. We were responsible for the design and construction of this wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at Carrigrenan for Cork City Council, as part of the Cork Main Drainage Scheme.
The scheme was developed in response to the EU Wastewater Treatment Directive of 1991, which demanded that all discharges of untreated effluent be collected and brought to a new WWTP, which was constructed as part of the scheme. The plant services a population of 324,000 people and the system involved primary and secondary treatment and sludge drying:
- Treatment process - pre-treatment, primary sedimentation, sequencing batch reactors, sludge thickening, digestion, dewatering and drying
- Sludge digestion process - mesopholic anaerobic digestion
