This project by the EPS Group involved the design, build, operate (DBO) of seven wastewater treatment plants for North Tipperary County Council. Works included full turnkey mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, automation and civil works. 

Treatment processes included pre-treatment, screening, activated sludge treatment, biological nutrient removal, chemical treatment for P removal, nutrient reduction and sludge treatment. All works were successfully transferred to a 20 year operate contract following successful commissioning and handover.

Unique features of contract

Among the unique features were:

• Installation of two vacuum sewer systems, which was a first for Ireland
• Installation of a Steds system as a pilot trial for the collection and treatment of wastewater in a rural, unsewered environment. The Steds project included the removal of 30 septic tank and soakaway systems and the replacement with Orenco Sted’s technology with individual solids separation and storage at each household, but with one centralised package textile treatment system and one controlled discharge
